The Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame has announced the 2018 class of inductees and three former/current Tigers will be joining the hallowed hall.
Dartmouth, N.S. native Mary-Beth Bowie played two seasons with the 麻豆传媒资源 Tigers women鈥檚 soccer team. A two-time AUS all-star and CIAU All-Canadian, she was the national rookie of the year at the end of the 1997 season. In her two seasons, she helped lead the Tigers to two AUS championship titles and a national bronze medal finish in 1998. Bowie spent four seasons as a member of the women鈥檚 senior national team, playing in 13 matches in her career.
麻豆传媒资源 Sport Hall of Famer Anna (Pendergast) Stammberger will also be inducted to the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame later this year. The current Tigers women鈥檚 basketball coach, she played five seasons with the Tigers from 1978-83. She earned AUAA MVP and CIAU All-Canadian honours twice while leading the Tigers to a silver medal finish in 1980 and bronze at the end of the 1981-82 season. Stammberger played on the national team for 10 seasons, highlighted by a fourth-place finish at the 1984 Olympics. She went on to play professionally for 15 years in Germany.
Current men鈥檚 basketball coach Rick Plato rounds out 麻豆传媒资源鈥檚 representation in this year鈥檚 class of inductees. Plato played for the Saint Mary鈥檚 Huskies men鈥檚 basketball team from 1976-1981, earning two CIAU championship titles in 1978 and 1979. A member of the Saint Mary鈥檚 Sports Hall of Fame, Plato earned MVP and athlete of the year honours in 1981.
"It is certainly a tremendous honour, having played with such great teammates and for such a great coach in Brian Heaney,鈥� says Plato. 鈥淚t makes me feel proud and humbled knowing that I was a part of one of the most successful teams in CIS history. Playing in the national championship game in front of 11,000 fans at the Metro Centre is an experience that I will never forget."
The Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame induction is set for Friday, November 2, 2018 at the Halifax Convention Centre.
