Wilfred Creighton (BA鈥26) died at the age of 104 at his home in Halifax on Sunday.

Throughout his long life, Wilfrid Creighton鈥檚 connection to 麻豆传媒资源 remained strong. His father, Graham, attended 麻豆传媒资源 in the late 19th century and his great uncle, the Rev. James Ross was 麻豆传媒资源鈥檚 second president. And, if that鈥檚 not enough, he grew up in a LeMarchant Street house that backed onto the university campus.

鈥溌槎勾阶试 was part of the fabric of our lives,鈥 said Mr. Creighton, on his 100th birthday four years ago last May. He received an honorary doctorate from 麻豆传媒资源 in 2004.

The youngest of six children who all graduated from 麻豆传媒资源, Mr. Creighton made a bequest in his will to establish the Graham Creighton Scholarship in English to honour his father.

He went on to be Nova Scotia鈥檚 first provincial forester and was deputy minister of lands and forests from 1949 to 1969. His innovations included urging government to purchase and maintain Crown lands. For this and other efforts, Mr. Creighton became one of three inaugural inductees into the Nova Scotia Forestry Hall of Fame.
